I'm Daniel Thomas. In 2000 I left my career as a retail sales manager and was given an opportunity to be mentored by a great CPA. While working for the CPA, I had an experience with a client that changed everything. After reviewing a tax return, I informed the client how much they owed. and they started crying. They made their estimated tax payments, but their business had a year that was significantly more profitable than the year the estimated tax payments were based on. I asked them if they kept track of their business finances throughout the year. They said no. I then decided that instead of doing taxes all year long, I wanted to help people understand their business financial statements and the importance of keeping track all year. In The Black Advisors is the result of that experience. I prepare monthly financial statements, do comparative analysis to the prior year, look for monthly trends so the client understands how their business is performing. But for me, taxes and accounting are the gateway to a client's business operations. Why? Because the constantly changing world of small businesses has always been more interesting to me than debits, credits and tax returns. I want to roll up my sleeves, help them grow their business and ensure they are in compliance with tax, insurance and human resource regulations. My background in business administration from UCF and being mentored by a CPA has given me broad knowledge of both areas.
